Streets, avenues, roads and boulevards are all words we use to describe a carriageway.
Some streets, like this quite street in a country town lead the eye to the side, to see who lives along it.
Others which once were simple streets are now carriageways of daunting size and complexity.
And yet we always need to remember that the word “Street” was used to describe the long roads which connected the far-flung parts of the Roman Empire. They served the same purpose which this lonely road in Outback Australia serves. It provides a safe and quick path from a town to its distant neighbour.
