When the Swan River Colony was first settled by Europeans in 1829 one of the first public buildings erected was the Round House.
It is a twelve-sided building and consisted of 8 cells and an ablutions area. It is called “The Round House” because “Dodecagon House” was too much of a mouthful!
That’s correct. The first building was a Gaol!
The first hard labour for the prisoners was to dig a well.
Now with it’s opening covered for safety reasons, the well still has fresh water at its base.
There are other exhibits from way back then. And no! I did not get myself sentenced to these!
What is your take on the multi-meaning word “Well”?

Next week, the subject will be, from Deb, “AGE”
